We need more what-book-would-the-cast-read headcanons, stat. Nobody's invented television yet (or perhaps cinemas) so what form of entertainment is both historically accurate and available in-game? Books!

I'll start:

Jesse, as a turbo nerd, loves the heck out of whatever the in-univers equivalent of superhero comics is (knights, not laser beams), owns special editions of the Lord of the Rings, has fun with those campy space-opera sci-fi books and and occasionally picks up the occasional nonfiction book about obscure interesting topics, which her friends will then hear about nonstop for the next week or so. She has a special fondness for Charlotte's Web, which she used to read to Reuben when he was younger. She sometimes leafs through the latest Cosmo in the convenience store magazine rack as a guilty pleasure.

Olivia also enjoys a decent sci-fi novel (albeit less space opera and more hard science), likes murder mysteries, secretly indulges in a few chastely romantic Victorian classics, eats Linux user manuals for breakfast and gets the latest edition of Popular Redstonics mailed to the treehouse every fortnight. She has occasional arguments with Jesse over the organizational system of their shared library, which tends to lapse into chaos when the latter is in charge.

Axel shares Jesse's enthusiasm for superhero comics and is first in the queue to get the newest volumes for the both of them. His memoir and travel literature collection is substantial—his stamp collection sits proudly between—and he secretly reads poetry and has attempted to make his own tentatively awkward verses. He also subscribes to Backyard Demolitionists Weekly in the mail.

Petra doesn't mess with 'stuffy old books written by dead people' (classics), but still rereads Treasure Island and other gallivanting picaresque type novels in her spare time. She digs the Count of Monte Cristo but completely missed the message about the costly and potentially futile price of revenge. Anything history related that doesn't have multiple wars in it is like pulling teeth. She used to secretly look at the Playboys hidden in a chest in her father's room when no one was around.

Lukas is invested in a wide range of literary fiction, from historical novels to the weirder avant garde novellas, and has a soft spot for little felines in his books. He's not the most well versed in philosophy but had a brutal period in his late teens when he discovered Schopenhauer. East of Eden has a special place in his heart for certain familial similarities, but he's never thought to voice that out loud. On the rare occasion that he's really irate he'll burn through a standard slasher horror novel and then discreetly return it to the library. In the future, a whimsical passage in his authorized biography will note that he's one of the few authors who isn't on outrageous (or any) quantities of drugs when writing.

Ivor reads romance novels, the sappiest, bodice ripping Mills and Boons stuff. He hides it under extreme lock and key and would probably vaporize whoever found out about it. It's another thing he has in common with his mother, which he is apparently unaware of. He also composed atrocious poetry in his sulky teenage years, which was burnt long ago. Those Gary-Stu edgy grim fantasy protagonists appealed immensely to him, and was a phase that lasted until he got the chewing out of his life from Ellegaard when attempting the same mannerisms in the lab.

Aiden doesn't read and is proud of it because he's an arrogant numbskull.

Last Song: Full song? Never Been Better (ft. Orla Gartland) - half-alive. But, I also had about 20s left of "So I" by Charli xcx before I paused it cause we were done with clean-up time and that's not a very ~calming~ song for a child's bedtime lol

Last Book: Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros. Still technically trudging through Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer. And just finished beta-reading the second act of an original story written by a friend/sorority sister from college today!

Last Movie: OH! Well - one that I actively watched - Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. Absolutely ZERO regrets. So happy I got to introduce my child to it. WAIT JK. NO. THAT NIGHT I WATCHED SAILOR MOON COSMOS PART I + II MAKING IT A VERY INNER CHILD HEALING KIND OF DAY. BUT, you see ~technically~ I watched Back to the Outback (or whatever that netflix animated children's film is called) this afternoon, though I paid absolutely zero attention to it. Just on as background noise for me and my child while I got some stuff done.

Last TV Show: Watched two episodes of TLK on Sunday and it was ~healing~

Sweet/Savoury/Spicy: Sweet. Always sweet. But I love savory too!!!

Relationship Status: Happily married :)

hot take: turbo isn't as bad as people say it is. maybe it's just because i grew up with it lol, but i loved the movie when i was younger and i love it now. the TV series is also underrated and hilarious.

*sigh* what a good day to think of Wildbreak, Hotshot and Wedge being used to be kill-machines at a young age because they were stolen when they were eggs by Silas, and also Hotshot and Wildbreak having to live with the fact their siblings never hatched because of negligence and never meeting their true parents

Meanwhile, the other five are living at their best in a farm, raised by humans, and who doesn't know even the BASICS for predacon culture, being told to quit some traits

All while their parents constantly suffer, not knowing if the eggs are okay or if they even hatched in time...

Yes, this is a reference to the Hunters of the Cosmos Au, and fuck, this is pure high angst, I'm in love

Just to be clear, because I feel I never actually said it

Nightshade, Jawbraker, Hotshot and one of the two eggs who never hatched was Boulder and Heatwave's eggs

Wildbreaker and the other egg that died was from Knock Out and Breakdown's, who would also be raised by Chase

Twitch and Trash were Wheeljack and Magnus's

Hashtag was Starscream and Skyfire's

And Wedge was an orphan egg that OP and Meg found before leaving the planet

And in the terran's case, those are not their names, and yes, good moment to put:

Wheeljack: Twitch and Trash? No, their names were supposed to be Quicksilver and Turbo!

Wheeljack: Yes! I even marked it on the eggs in case no one could understand-

Nightshade and Jawbreaker were supposed to be Violet (Boulder's choice) and Sunwave (Heatwave's choice), Hotshot is still Hotshot but Silas call him "Lizard" (because he looks like one), some members of Mech call him Axolotl

Wildbreaker is called "Dog" or "Wolf" but some say he looks like a deer mixed with dog, so, some call him Dragon

And Wedge looks and acts like a rock, so, at first it was Rocky, and later it was Rocky Balboa, and later they started calling him Silvester, because he prefers nature and fights enemies, also, due to so much time on stasis, he developed a paralisis on half of his face (like Silvester Stalone) and both his monster and bot mode)

Oh, and ps: the eggs that never hatchet, Boulder and Heatwave's was supposed to be named Cyber Rose and looked more like a moth than the others (like Boulder); Knock Out and Breakdown let Chase decide the name of the second egg and was supposed to be called Mural, like Chase's asderoux (in human terms, his biological mom, to consult for Cybertronian terms click here) and also looked more like KO than Wildbreak[I don't read the fic because I don't want to cry these days but I completely agree with these terms and some other things, gave it a look, is really good and cool])

I want to yap about the cars so much with the whys and the hows each character gets to them so I decided to start posting about the interesting ones one by one where I go into a lot more detail than the chapter overview ones AND YES I ALREADY DID ONE FOR CHUUYA but it's old and stinky I neeed to redo that one

Tachihara's RX7 FC3C (pictured is a 3S; the Coupe version. Tachihara's even more insane and picked up the cloth-topped convertible one) is basically... a race car. that happens to have a license plate.

The mod used in these pictures is the RE Amemiya Furinkazan mod which came in the Shutoko Revival Project car pack. Expect to see cars from there since a lot of the cars there follow the rough aesthetic I had in mind for retribution.

The car, pictured, has an RE Amemiya bodykit for the FC, and the rims are Enkei NT03's. The only real difference is that the car is a convertible, but I think he'd do an aftermarket conversion to make it a Targa top to make it look a little more savory to the eye (go look up how an FC convertible looks like......).

The engine in the car is a Mazda 20B engine block, which is different from the 20B-REW used in the Eunos Cosmos through intake placement or something like that... It's the 20B in specific because it was sourced from a former Group C Le Mans race car; the Mazda 757 (although there it's named the 13G).

I should mention that the rotary engine is different from your run-of-the-mill piston engine in many ways, also.

Rotaries are a triangle instead of a piston compressing a chamber, which means that the engine is a closer relative to a dirt bike engine rather than a normal car's engine. Power's high up the revs, and there's not a lot of bite when you first get it off the line compared to a similar conventional engine.

Anyhow, as Tachihara worked from just the engine block, a lot of the other parts are custom and unorthodox, to say the least. For one, the car's twincharged in that it uses forced induction from a supercharger and a turbo. Both modes had their advantages and disadvantages, though twincharging at that point is just a flex and pretty impractical despite the theoretical benefits.

Second also is the fact that the car is hell to drive. The fact that the engine is a race engine and the whole experience is built around race car sensibilities makes the car be infeasible to drive on the daily. The car lurches and jerks forward from a stop light, stalls at the drop of a hat, very low and stiff so you feel every pothole, hot and loud as hell... and I don't need many other adjectives for you to get the point.

However, when the car goes... it goes. It has way more power than you know what to do with in a mountain pass. And when you drive it, it wants you to go faster, like it's egging you to go rev higher, go for the power band and feel the car just overtake you from how fast it's going under your nose.

It's totally on-brand for him.

All in all, the car makes around 550~ horsepower to the wheel. Which, when you consider that the car is a death trap and wants to kill you... is a lot.

Now Tachihara got the car from his time working as one of the few full-time employees in Black Lizard Works. In retribution's verse, it's practically one of the most renowned tuner houses; Human Error and Arahabaki got their cars tuned there, as well as Akutagawa's and Gin's cars, naturally. You'd need a pretty penny to get a car built from the ground up there, but through the hefty fees, it's guaranteed that the cars are worldbeaters behind the right hands.

Black Lizard numbers the chassis of certain cars that they work on, and Tachihara's is #017. For reference, Human Error and Arahabaki's are #005 and #006. It also has a Black Lizard Works badge on the back, which is practically a mark of honor from the tuning house when they know it's good enough that people start asking whose car it was.

The car and engine started off as two different things. Tachihara bought a very ran-through example of an FC, one where the engine's starting to give up the ghost and is not worth it to salvage. It is also Tachihara's First Car. And the reason why it's absolute hell to drive is because Tachi keeps tacking on mod, after mod, after mod, with no regard as to how it's gonna effect everything cohesively. It's always a coin toss whether it's gonna crank up to life, or throw up a problem so obscure it requires scouring factory documentation on how to even begin solving it.

It's practically the monster that embodies many of the sensibilities of the generation of racers he's a part of... which is kind of poetic in that sense, but who am I kidding, Tachihara's just immature.......
